Fertilizers ‘shortage’: Agriculture Minister appeals to farmers not to panic

Minister of Agriculture N. Cheluvarayaswamy resorted to farmers not to panic the fertilizer, especially Urea’s existence.

The Minister said on Thursday to the journalists in Bengaluru, some farmers before the fertilizer stores, even though they did not need in the next two months, they began to enter the queue to get the stock of fertilizer, he said.

Referring to this, Cheluvarayaswamy asked farmers, farmers’ leaders and elected representatives to be aware of the situation and to stop pamping in advance.

The state needed 6.80,000 tons of fertilizer from April to July, which was already sold 6.55,000 tons, and announced that it was in stock that was 1.94,000 tons.

He blamed three factors responsible for the current situation. While good and early monsoon resulted in rapid planting, the central urea had reduced the allocation to the state, and the third factor was that the fertilizers were stocked by farmers in advance.

Although he wrote more than one letter to the center seeking additional urea allocation, the officials of the department were in constant contact with their colleagues. At the cabinet meeting on Thursday, he wanted to bring this problem to the agenda during his ongoing visit to Delhi, who wanted to allocate Prime Minister Siddaramaiah in addition to the center at the cabinet meeting on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the opposition leader blamed the indifference of the congress government in Karnataka because farmers were worried about the presence of fertilizers despite the good monsoon.
