Former IPS officer and BRS general secretary RS Praveen Kumar alleged that the State government was conspiring to destroy the education system in Telangana. He criticized the latest report of the State Education Commission led by A. Murali on education policy.
Addressing a press conference, he said the report blamed teachers for the flaws in the education system. He added that his findings had damaged the self-confidence of 1.7 lakh teachers in the state and stated that the pay structure of teachers was decided by the Pay Revision Commission and not the Education Commission.
Accusing Mr. Murali of making a report against the teaching community, the BRS leader questioned how he could come to the conclusion that the education system was destroyed during the 10-year rule of K. Chandrashekhar Rao, without examining the existing system.
The BRS leader alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had prepared the Education Commission report to prevent the increase in salaries of teachers, while the previous government had increased the salaries of teachers and other employees significantly. He also objected to the Commission’s recommendation to introduce tests for teacher promotions, saying that no such system existed for other departments.
He also criticized the proposal to scrap Telangana EAPCET and said it would benefit students studying in corporate colleges and disadvantage those from rural areas as corporate college students are more likely to score higher Intermediate marks and get admission in engineering colleges. He also opposed the proposal to phase out the current residential education system.
