Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week extension of the deadline with Iran amid intense efforts to bring the two sides back to the negotiating table. Hours after declaring he was “expecting to bomb”, the US president said he would extend the ceasefire until Iranian negotiators present a proposal for peace.
“Based on the fact that the Iranian government is not unexpectedly but seriously fragmented, and upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, we have been asked to continue our Attack on the Land of Iran until its leaders and representatives put forward a common proposal,” he wrote on the Truth Social platform.
Iran, meanwhile, called the extension of the ceasefire “a ploy to buy time for a surprise attack” and added that “it is time for Iran to take the initiative.”
“The losing side cannot dictate the terms,” Mehdi Muhammadi wrote on social media. “The continuation of the siege must be met with a military response.”
