Graham Thorpe’s care had ’failings’ in last months of his life, says coroner | UK news
A Coroner said “failures” in the months before the death of former British cricket player Graham Thorpe, as the result of suicide was recorded in an investigation.
55 -year -old Thorpe died on August 4, 2024 after he was shot by a train at a train station in Surrey.
Surrey Coroner’s court “turned into depression” after he lost his job as a shot coach in 2022 and tried to get his own life on another occasion. He also asked his wife for help to end his life.
Coroner Jonathan Stevens said that Thorpe was on March 26, 2024 when he was last seen by health professionals.
Stevens added that there are failures in maintaining care ,, but on evidence, he said that these failures were disgusting and that Thorpe would not die without them. He said that his health appointments were offered to Thorpe, but he had “difficulty in participating in them” because of his mental health.
“Someone should see it in order to monitor and evaluate it properly, to make a face -to -face risk assessment and to understand and take care of the care needs of the maintenance plan, Ste said Stevens.”
The investigation heard that health professionals did not see Thorpe in the case of a crisis after missing the appointment from the community mental health team on June 28th. At that time, Thorpe’s wife Amanda said to the Care Coordinator that her husband ı asked for help to end his life ”.
During the same telephone consultancy, Thorpe said he hadn’t been out for a while and “he hasn’t seen the point of being here,” but they had no plans to act on suicide thoughts.
Coroner said: “When Graham constantly asks his wife to help him end his life, this is a new presentation orum I do not accept that he is not at that point in the crisis.
“It is clear that there are deficiencies in care. If it was seen in the last four months, especially after the incident on June 28, I cannot say whether it would make any difference.”
In May 2023, Thorpe had suicide thoughts and received inpatient treatment. “Some similar preventive measures should be taken into consideration in June 2024, Stevens said Stevens.
