While the Spanish city of Granada was shaken by an earthquake, local people panicked due to the tremors that “felt like an explosion”. The earthquake occurred 3.73 miles (6 km) south of Granada at 15:46 local time (14:46 BST).

The Mediterranean Seismology Center announced that the magnitude of the earthquake was 3.7. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the town of Ogíjares at a depth of 6 kilometers, but the National Geographic Institute initially located the epicenter in La Malahá, at a depth of 10 kilometers. An aftershock of magnitude 1.7 and depth of 6 kilometers was felt in Armilla.
