Groundbreaking technology to help police tackle violence against women

New police technology was opened as part of their efforts to combat violence against women and girls.

Devices known as Project Archway allow civil servants to better evaluate the injuries of victims by making it easier to photograph and visualize bruising, especially in darker skin.

London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan showed the new technology on Monday and spoke to the metropolitan police commissioner Sir Mark Rowley and the officers who were piloting their devices.

The hand -type device is the first example of the developed type and uses a technique called cross polarization to make the naked eye injuries clear.

MET police said that during a pilot in South London, 45 percent of 33 uses resulted in charges and others were under investigation.

The device suffered ethical examination and extensive consultancy, including the Royal Prosecutor’s Office Service (CPS), the Black Police Association and the input of the Met Ethics Committee. Officers are specially trained before use and can only use the device with full consent from the victims.

In addition to Force’s V100 program, which targets the most dangerous criminals and has already resulted in 129 convictions and 154 serious charges, technology is part of the efforts to combat violence against women and girls after the publication of a three -year progress report on Tuesday.

Sir Sadiq said the police responded to the concerns of color victims.

He said: “Ethnic minority and women are less confident in the police service of the Londons, and to support the concerns of one of the duties of the police service by my challenge, and the concerns of the police service.

“I think what he shows today is how much the police have changed and the victims and survivors, especially the victims of the ethnic minority and the survivors responds to a legitimate concern.”

“It is really important to accept the progress.”

Although Sir Sadiq said that although it is impressive, new technology and studies do not mean that there are no more work to help color victims.

Sir Sir Sadiq said: “The mission is not successful. Neither myself nor a commissioner, the need for more reform, the need for more work, does not complain about the need to win on the Londons who are still not sure of the police service.”

He urged to start in schools and to cope with the hostility of women to be classified by Parliament as a hate crime.

Iz We must realize that violence against women and girls, ending the hostility of women, can not start and stop with the police. It needs a whole society approach. It is really important for employers to understand the concerns of female staff, but at the same time bars, bars, music spaces, music festivals should be safe for women and girls.

“There is a role for the criminal justice system to do much better. In 2025, it cannot be true in one of the most progressive countries in the world, if you are a woman or a girl, you are afraid of going out.”

Sir Mark said that power has improved the reaction to victims of violence against women and girls.

He said: “This new technology is just one example of how we develop our response to victims of violence against women and girls every day.

“A very fundamental requirement is to achieve great evidence about an attack that may be a bruise or scratch.

“Photography is not always easy to photograph the photo. It depends on light, depends on a series of factors. Sometimes it depends on the color of the skin – darker skin sometimes is sometimes less bruising.

“Our judicial experts who recognize this problem designed this special lighting technology.”

He said that the tests resulted in more prosecution and wanted to expand the rest of London and the country in the future.
