District Monitoring Officer assesses monsoon preparedness in Kallakurichi

P. Madhusudhan Redy, a regional monitoring officer, chaired a meeting at the collection on Wednesday to review the precautionary measures taken by various departments for the southwestern Muson.

Addressing the calligraphy departments, Mr. Redy advised the authorities to prepare plans for vulnerable areas and to evaluate healing measures for those prone to floods. PWD engineers should stock water bodies and ensure the strengthening of BUNDs. In case of any deficiency, the authorities said they would take steps without any delay.

Similarly, the sandbags should be kept ready and all tanks should be taken under strict supervision. In case of violations in water bodies, the public should be instructed to pass to safer places.

Each department was asked to prepare an emergency intervention protocol to commit emergencies related to monsoon, including the damage given to the infrastructure. Income, local organs and PWD departments were asked to coordinate and work with each other.

Line departments were compulsory to keep the necessary equipment/machines during the monsoon. The trees falling due to wind and rain should be cleaned immediately.

He said that medical teams should be created to provide health service to people in the affected areas and that all primary health centers should be sufficient drug stock.

The monitoring officer also directed the authorities to provide electricity and drinking water supply and the presence of the first interventionists and the first intervention.
