Explosion in Delhi: A high-intensity explosion occurred in a car near the Red Fort in Delhi on Monday evening. Many other vehicles also caught fire and were damaged in the explosion. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the blast took place in a Hyundai i20 car at around 7 pm at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort in Delhi. Some pedestrians were injured and some vehicles were damaged in the explosion.
10 people died and many people were injured in the incident. Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said, “Today around 18.52, an explosion occurred in a vehicle that was moving slowly towards the red light. The passengers were there, other vehicles were also affected.” The nature of the explosion is not yet known. The images showed a minibus with its doors blown off, a completely smashed car, another car with a shattered windshield, and an injured man on the ground.
What did eyewitnesses say about the Red Fort explosion?
Eyewitnesses said that many vehicles were destroyed, windows of shops and even the nearby metro station were broken. “I was in the gurdwara when I heard a loud noise. We couldn’t understand what it was, it was so loud,” another resident said.
A shopkeeper said the tremors were strong enough to shake entire buildings. “I came here to buy something when I heard a big explosion. The whole shop shook,” he said. “Many people were injured and many were taken away from the scene a short time later.”
Recovery of ammonium nitrate in Faridabad
The blast took place hours after about 360 kg of suspected ammonium nitrate and some weapons and ammunition were found in the accommodation rented by a Kashmiri doctor near Faridabad.
