Gus Lamont’s parents appeal to public for information and say ‘every moment without him is unbearable’ | South Australia

The parents of missing four-year-old Gus Lamont say their “lives are shattered” as they appeal to the public for any information that could help find him.

Gus, also known as Angus, went missing from his family’s sheep farm in the South Australian outback on September 27 last year.

South Australian police initially believed he had disappeared, but after several extensive searches police announced on 5 February that the case was now considered a major crime and they had identified the suspected suspect.

Police said the suspect was someone who lived with Gus at the Oak Park station, but emphasized that he was not one of his parents.

In a statement Tuesday, Gus’ parents, Josh and Jess, posted another photo of Gus and a short video of him on his bike.

“We stand united in our grief and our search for answers about what happened to our little boy Gus, who meant everything to us,” they said in a statement released by SA police.

“Our lives are shattered and every moment we spend without him is unbearable.

“We know someone out there may have information. If anyone knows what happened, we’re appealing to that person, or anyone else who may have seen or heard anything, to please come forward.”

“Even the smallest detail can give us the answers we desperately need.”

They also thanked everyone who participated in the search and “the friends, family and supporters who have shown compassion, care and help during this heartbreaking time.”

“Your kindness helped us get through the darkest days of our lives.

“All we want is to bring Gus home and figure out what happened to our beautiful boy.”

Drones, divers and dogs joined teams of volunteers, police, emergency services and defense force personnel to search the 60,000 hectare area. As the search continued, hope of finding Gus alive diminished, and in early October police prepared the family for the news that he might not survive.

Police said there was no evidence of foul play throughout the incident, but nothing could be ruled out and the family was cooperating.

But on February 5, major crime officer Det Supt Darren Fielke said police now thought it was unlikely Gus had wandered off or been abducted.

He said police “identified a number of inconsistencies and inconsistencies” in the information they were given and that a person living at the Oak Park station was no longer cooperative and was considered a suspect.

Police seized a vehicle, a motorcycle and electronic devices from the property.

Gus’s two grandmothers issued a joint statement through their attorneys, saying the family is “fully cooperating with the investigation and wants nothing more than to find Gus and reunite him with his mother and father.”

On February 16, police arrested a 75-year-old man on unrelated firearms charges, saying the charges stemmed from an earlier search of the Oak Park station but were not related to Gus’ disappearance.

At this point detectives from Taskforce Horizon returned to the property to continue searching for more evidence but were unable to uncover anything. The investigation continues.

Fielke said police “will continue to investigate Gus’s disappearance thoroughly and meticulously until we get results.”
