Kentucky Derby 2026 best and worst dressed stars: Enormous hats and feathered frocks take over the horse race
The 2026 Kentucky Derby is almost upon us, and the festivities have already begun ahead of the coveted horse race at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
And as expected, the star-studded guests certainly did not disappoint with their dramatic ensembles.
The annual competition, which will take place on Saturday, May 2nd at 6:57pm EST, is not only a prestigious horse race, but also a fashion show with a unique and exclusive dress code.
Every year, it has become a tradition for the participants to appear in colorful outfits and fashionable attire, as well as their most eye-catching hats.
This year’s event has already seen a bevy of stars, including Melissa Joan Hart, Neil Patrick Harris, former *NSYNC members Lance Bass and Joey Fatone, singer Luis Fonsi, Dee Dee Sorvino, Lolo Jones and Odette Annable.
As race fans prepared to watch what has been dubbed ‘the most exciting two minutes in sports’, they showed off some truly dazzling accessories and ensembles.
While many of the dramatic headdresses and bright outfits worked, others were a bit too much, resulting in some major fashion fails.

David Burtka and Neil Patrick Harris’ appearances at the 2026 Kentucky Derby were a bit overrated. Burtka wore a patterned turquoise suit consisting of shorts, long socks and a tan bow tie. Patrick Harris was wearing burgundy trousers and a colorful suit jacket.
*NSYNC member Joey Fatone arrived at the event in style. He opted for a very bright turquoise suit and completed his look with colorful sneakers and a white fedora. Longtime girlfriend Izabel Araujo stunned in a similar-colored sheer floral dress, which she paired with strappy nude heels and a dramatic white dress adorned with a string of flowers.
Singer Luis Fonsi looked stylish in his black-and-white plaid sport coat, white button-up shirt, white trousers, tan dress shoes and white-and-black hat. His wife, Águeda López, chose a simple black dress, white Chanel heels, a dark black hat with a white flower on it, and transparent gloves. The couple kept it simple but stylish
Dee Dee Sorvino and her husband John Schneider were spotted at the event in matching outfits. Sorvino rocked a blue and white polka-dot collared dress that featured a dazzling brooch in the middle of the chest area. She completed her look with a matching hat, gloves and heeled boots. Schneider, on the other hand, was wearing a white sports jacket over a light blue shirt and matching trousers, and a polka dot tie in a similar color to his wife’s dress.
Lolo Jones made sure all eyes were on him at the 2026 Kentucky Derby. She wore an intricately patterned white dress to the event, but it was her dark blue and white hat that really caught the eye.
Star Jones attended the event in a baby blue ruffled dress, colorful heels and a feathered hat. She also wore flowers in her hair and held a sparkly bag that matched her shoes. Her husband, Ricardo Lugo, kept it much simpler with an all-white look.
Miss America Cassie Donegan dazzled in a bright, floral minidress that featured a tight bodice and A-line waist that completely revealed her long legs. She completed her look with a black and red floral hat as well as black heels. If you ask us, her collection had just the right amount of color without going overboard.
Actress Odette Annable showed a very simple look with her yellow satin dress and nude high-heeled shoes. Instead of a bold hat like the others, he wore a simple, feathered headdress. He attended the event with Hallmark’s Kentucky Derby star Andrew Walker, who wore a gray suit over a sky blue button-down shirt, some loafers, and a large fedora hat.

Model and TV star Camille Kostek emphasized her enviable physique with a low-cut black jacket with polka dots and a matching pencil skirt. Of course, she wore a big black hat, black and white heels, and held a chic black Chanel bag.
Model Tabitha Swatosh looked stylish in her black-white shirt and skirt combination. The pale white ensemble featured black flowers. She paired her outfit with white heels and a big black hat.
