HAL signs deal with GE Aerospace for 113 jet engines for Tejas light combat aircraft programme: What we know

Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) informed the stock exchanges on November 7 that it has signed an agreement with US-based General Electric Company for a support package for 113 F404-GE-IN20 engines and 97 LCA Mk1A programmes.
He added that the contract for 97 LCA Mk 1A was signed in September 2025, and engine deliveries will be from 2027 to 2032.

Tejas is a single-engine, multi-role fighter aircraft capable of operating in high-threat air environments. According to the PTI report, it has been designed to take on air defence, maritime reconnaissance and attack roles.
According to Sunil, the LCA Mk1A aircraft will have 70 percent indigenous content, with advanced systems such as UTTAM Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar and Swayam Raksha Kavach electronic warfare suite.
He added that approximately 50% of the material content used in the production of the aircraft carrier will come from the Indian private sector. “We will have completed all 180 aircraft by fiscal year 2032-33. This is our target,” he added.
