Hard-left rejoice at Ann Widdecombe’s death with sick celebratory social media posts – while Peter Tatchell brands her a ‘BIGOT!’

The far left reacted to the death of Ann Widdecombe with a series of sick social media posts celebrating the tragedy.

Activists posted hateful messages about the former Tory minister turned Reform UK supporter just hours after his death was announced this morning.

Many people noted his strong views on social issues; one described him as ‘homophobic’ and rejoiced at the sad news.

Gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell was slammed this afternoon for X post he wrote: ‘Former Conservative MP #AnnWiddecombe is dead!

‘For 40 years he opposed every law reform against homosexuals and supported every form of legal discrimination against LGBT people.

He also supported proposals to ‘cure’ homosexuality and said people should have the right to discriminate against LGBT people. BUSY!’

He later deleted the post and insisted he was horrified by the murder.

‘Contrary to responses to my previous post, I did not ‘celebrate’ the death of Ann Widdecombe. RIP,’ he said.

The Socialist Worker newspaper responded to the tragedy with ‘Hooray! ‘Ann Widdecombe is definitely dead’

‘I highlighted the harm and pain it caused to LGBT people. The posting was planned long before reports of his murder were published.

‘I just heard this 10 minutes ago. No one deserves to die, let alone be killed. RIP Ann.’

Mr Thatchall later apologized for his ‘insensitive comments’ about Ms Widdecombe’s death and sent his ‘sincere condolences’ to the former MP’s loved ones.

Turning back to X, he wrote: ‘I apologize for my insensitive comments regarding the death of Anne Widdecombe.

‘No one deserves to die, no matter what they believe.

‘I offer my sincerest condolences to Ann’s family and friends.

‘I support the police investigation and want justice for Ann.’

Known for her fearless and no-nonsense nature, Ms Widdecombe spent more than two decades as a Conservative Party MP before becoming a Brexit Party MP and joining Reform UK in 2023.

She was last seen appearing on Talk TV on Wednesday to support Nigel Farage in the Clacton by-election.

The Socialist Worker newspaper responded to the tragedy with ‘Hooray! ‘Ann Widdecombe is definitely dead’.

A spokesperson for Reform UK shared their dismay at the headline, telling the Daily Mail: ‘Whatever your political beliefs, this headline is disgusting beyond belief.

‘Socialist Workers should be ashamed of themselves. They should apologize immediately to Ann’s friends and family.’

Police found Ms Widdecombe ‘seriously injured’ after an ambulance crew were called to her home in Haytor, Dartmoor, at 11.40am yesterday morning.

In an update this afternoon, Devon and Cornwall Police said officers had launched a murder investigation and were hunting a “white male” who they “believe is responsible”.

Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman has now told a press conference that a 26-year-old white British man was arrested at an address in Newton Abbot.

Mrs Widdecombe’s death, aged 78, was first announced by her management team this morning, with no indication other than natural causes.

It was learned that the woman, who was seriously injured in her head, was covered in blood.

Mr Longman said there was currently ‘no information’ to suggest the murder was a ‘politically motivated crime’ and was not being treated as linked to terrorism.

He told reporters: ‘A 26-year-old man was arrested in Newton Abbot this afternoon on suspicion of the murder of Ann Widdecombe. The suspect, a white British national, remains in police custody while investigations continue.

‘Although we are working closely with our partners and consulting with counter-terrorism police as part of our initial investigations, the incident is not being treated as terrorism.’

Coroners’ officers are in the process of examining Ms Widdecombe’s cordoned-off property.

Mr Longman said the investigation was at an ‘early stage’ but was ‘moving at a significant pace’.

Ms Widdecombe became a Brexit Party MP and later a UK Reform supporter

Miss Widdecombe also rose to fame outside politics after appearing in Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Big Brother.

Sir Keir Starmer described the announcement of a murder investigation as ‘truly shocking news’ and praised the former MP as ‘an outstanding politician’. He declined to comment when asked if he thought the murder might have been politically motivated.

Home Affairs Minister Shabana Mahmood described the conditions as ‘extremely distressing’ but urged the public not to speculate.

Conservative Party leader Ms Badenoch said she was ‘stunned’ by the development and ‘heartbroken for her family’.

‘I had a really hard time finding the words to say, to be honest,’ he told reporters. ‘Ann Widdecombe was a very fun and feisty woman and spoke her mind, she was 78, an old lady.

‘I don’t understand how someone could do such a terrible thing to an old person. This was a disgusting, horrific attack and my heart breaks for his family.

‘It’s one thing for someone to die, but it’s terrible to know that he was killed in such a horrific way.

‘The Conservative Party is shaken. Ann was a long-standing member of the Conservative Party, was a Conservative minister and later converted to Reform.’
