Harris says Americans can’t trust DOJ under Trump in MSNBC interview

Former Vice President Kamala Harris said Sunday on MSNBC’s “The Weekend” that Americans “can’t trust” the Justice Department under President Donald Trump.
During the interview, Harris argued that the recent indictments against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James show that Trump is waging a “campaign of revenge” using the federal government against those who oppose him.
When host Eugene Daniels asked if Americans could trust the Justice Department, Harris said she didn’t believe they could.

“I don’t know if we can trust what’s coming out of the Department of Justice right now,” Harris said. “And as someone who has spent most of my career as a prosecutor, it pains me to say that a prosecutor’s job should be to deliver justice.”
He added that U.S. attorneys should be able to do their jobs “without any fear or self-interest,” but said “that’s not what rules the day” under the Trump administration.

“And when you have an administration and individuals manipulating America’s justice system in this way, they best understand that this isn’t just about something that affects the individuals they target. It affects all of us who believe that a justice system, however flawed, should actually be blind to doing its job, should not target people because of who they are or even what they look like,” Harris said.
