Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will “crash and burn” unless King Charles takes action now, royal commentator says.

According to Vanity Fair’s former editor-in-chief Tina Brown, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should be given the “half-in, half-out” royal roles that Harry had previously suggested. He believes Harry and Meghan urgently need these positions because their current sources of income, including Netflix deals, are “starting to dry up.”

Ms Brown wrote: “The Sussexes’ income streams are starting to dry up. The House of Windsor needs to put the upset aside and get on top of the problem before the Sussexes crash and burn. Give Harry and Meghan a limited international role.”

He makes the case in the latest Substack article, published amid speculation that Netflix is looking to replace the Sussexes with Prince William and Princess Catherine to take royal news in a new direction.

Reports had suggested that Meghan, 44, was ready to return to acting after her Netflix contract ended. The star has had a successful acting career, appearing in legal drama Suits and sci-fi show Fringe, among other shows and movies.

But calls for Meghan to once again join Harry at royal engagements have now intensified.

They stepped back from royal duties during their time in California in 2020, but pressure remains on the monarch to make sweeping changes as the Firm has recently come under scrutiny over Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson’s links to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

One possibility could include deploying his son and Meghan in capacities described as “half in, half out.” Harry and Charles are thought to have discussed these proposals in early September last year.

This meeting was of particular importance as it was the first time Harry and Charles had met since the beginning of 2024.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said: “Wouldn’t it have worked half and half? He’s the replacement, he’s not going to be King, so why couldn’t they come up with some sort of compromise?”

“He’s a natural in a crowd: funny, informal, charming. This week (when Harry returned to London for a visit) he showed what a waste he was.”

“But when it comes to the Palace, the fundamental dilemma seems to remain: How can a working member of the royal family, even one who works part-time, also operate in the commercial world?”

Harry and Meghan, who married in May 2018, are scheduled to travel to Australia next month to engage in charitable activities similar to the responsibilities undertaken by members of the royal family.
