Haryana Women’s panel summons Badshah over ‘Tateeree’ lyrics

The Haryana State Women’s Commission has summoned rapper Badshah for alleged objectionable lyrics in the Haryanvi song Tateeree, considering complaints that the song contains derogatory language towards women.

In a statement released this week, the commission asked the artist to appear before it and explain the purpose and content of the song after concerns were raised that the lyrics promoted obscenity and objectification.

The controversy had been building since the song was released at the beginning of the month. Badshah’s real name is Aditya Pratik Singh Sisodia. The hearing is scheduled for March 13.
The action followed complaints from local groups in Panipat and other parts of the state, who claimed that the lyrics of the track were offensive and inappropriate. Taking the matter into consideration, the commission said it would examine whether the content violated norms regarding women’s dignity and representation.
