Tamil Nadu election 2026: AMMK manifesto seeks Bharat Ratna for Muthuramalinga Thevar, Jayalalithaa

Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) has demanded that the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour, be conferred posthumously on Forward Bloc leader U. Muthuramalinga Thevar and former Prime Minister Jayalalithaa. The party also wanted the Madurai International Airport to be named after Thevar.

These demands formed the highlights of the 32-page poll manifesto published by party general secretary TTV Dhinakaran on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

AMMK, which wants the product loans that farmers receive from cooperatives and nationalized banks to be exempt, called for the expansion of the protected agricultural zone. Proposing a law to ensure that government institutions provide services to the people within a certain period of time, AMMK supported the conduct of a caste survey by the State government, which would not ultimately disrupt the 69% quota system.

He also promised the people that steps would be taken to restore certain tribes status for certain communities who are facing difficulties in getting concessions from the Union government.

While reiterating the inclusion of education in the State Constitution List again, AMMK demanded opening of Kendriya Vidyalaya and PM Shri schools in larger number. The party also committed to not only reform the monthly billing of domestic electricity consumers, but also provide 100 units free of charge every month. The reservation rate for Muslims in education and employment should be increased to 5 percent.

AMMK also said it would take steps to revive the Legislative Council, which was abolished 40 years ago, and to stop the “privatization” of State Transport Companies. The party also assured the public that it would strive to find a permanent solution to the legal impediments in providing concessional housing plots to full-time journalists at the district level.
