HC acquits Assam native rape, murder charge of elderly widow

The Kerala High Court on Friday acquitted Assam native Parimal Sahu, who was sentenced to death for raping and murdering a 60-year-old widow at Puthenvelikkara in Ernakulam in 2018.

The Bench of Justice AK Jayasankaran Nambiar and Justice Jobin Sebastian observed that the scientific evidence presented to the court did not assist the prosecution in proving the involvement of the migrant worker in the crime. On the contrary, it tended to support the defendant’s claim of innocence.

While considering Sahu’s appeal against the court decision that sentenced him to death, the court approved the acquittal decision.
