HC Stays Eviction Of Dalit Women’s Stalls In Jangaon

-Warangal: The Supreme Court issued an interim stay on the eviction of two stalls run by Dalit women near Jangaon District Collection, directing the authorities to stay the demolition until further orders.

The petition was filed by Palamakula Chinna Manjula and Potkuri Vijayalakshmi, who run a tea stall and Vijaya Dairy outlet set up under the ‘Indira Mahila Shakti’ scheme.

The dispute arose on March 16, when municipal officials, together with the police, arrived at the site with machines to remove the structures. The women resisted the move, stating that the units were set up with a loan of Rs 3 lakh each under the support of DRDA and were commissioned six months ago.

In their petition, vendors expressed concern about the power cut to their stalls, claiming that the evacuation was initiated without prior notice.

They also filed a complaint alleging harassment by the authorities and requested action in accordance with the relevant provisions.

After hearing the matter, the court directed the authorities to stay the eviction proceedings pending further investigation.

While the decision provides temporary relief to the plaintiffs, the case remains in the judicial stage.
