Head in hands…Starmer summed up what the nation thinks about him | Politics | News

Are we snooker nuts… Chas and Dave were chirping away at the 1986 classics. Forty years later the song should be reimagined to speak to the House of Commons on Wednesday lunchtimes. It’s complete madness.

The Rockney duo gleefully sang about red, yellow, green and blue balls, mocking billiards stars of the time. We have our own version of the same colors in the world of 2020s British politics, but use turquoise for an extra spin.

This week’s PMQs saw Reform storming out of the House, Ed Davey declaring himself a judge, Keir Starmer dodging questions left, right and centre, and jokes being made about a stolen mobile phone and a sleeping dog.

Everything was pretty ordinary at first, with Sir Keir and Kemi Badenoch drilling in the North Sea.

But temperatures began to rise when the Prime Minister began to stir up the issue, at one point holding his head in his hands and repeatedly claiming that the Conservative leader had not read the legislation on oil and gas fields.

For the third time, an exasperated Miss B said “oh my god!” he shouted.

Ed Davey then upped the ante and the smug and honorable gentleman claimed that the Prime Minister was right and Mrs Badenoch was wrong.

This is a woman who says she is going to fight a thief. Permanent clown Liberal Democrat leader, pffff.

I was sitting no more than 20 feet away and I was truly afraid for his safety.

Then we hit Alex ‘Hurricane’ Higgins levels of chaos.

Reform’s commander-in-chief took Sir Keir to task for his failure to “dismantle” migrant smuggling gangs.

Another non-answer was met with Farage angrily marching his teal army out of the House of Commons.

Starmer tried to make a joke in response to a Labor MP’s question about the snooker world championships, suggesting that Reform realized they were “absolutely snooker”.

But the sight of the Prime Minister holding hands perhaps summed up what the nation thinks of our politicians.
