Health Minister seeks advice after Trump foreshadows ‘historic’ announcement

Trump previously explored the increasing autism rates to the authorities, including the Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy JR. In the last decade, including Australia, there has been an increase in the diagnosis of autism in the world.

In April, Kennedy said: iz We will know what caused the autism epidemic until September and we will be able to eliminate these exposures. ”

The evidence is not certain: Australian scientists

However, Australian researchers emphasized that there was no scientific study that proves that there was a causal relationship between paracetamol and autism during pregnancy. They said that any decision should be weighed against the risk of unshakled fever during pregnancy.

Prof. Dr. Kevin Yap from La Trobe University, “evidence is mixed,” he said.

“A recent examination in the US has reported relationships between the use of prenatal paracetamol and slightly higher autism rates, but a large Swedish work using sister comparisons has not found any effect when family factors were checked … The results of this study should be taken carefully.”

Monash University Turner Brain and Mental Health Institute. Hannah Kirk said that the reports “have a understandable concern between the expected parents”.

“But no study showed this [paracetamol] It causes autism. Reported that there is a relationship between some studies [paracetamol] Usage and autism, others do not. As important, the relationship does not mean causal. ”

Professor Andrew Whitehouse, who pioneered the autism research at the Kids Research Institute in Australia. “Autism is a complex situation affected by many genetic and environmental factors,” he said.

“Any small relationship in this region needs to be weighed against the risk of high fever untreated during pregnancy for the woman and the developing baby.”

Dr Gideon Meyerowitz-Katz, a senior research assistant at the University of Wollongong, said that there is only a handful of great scientific work on the effect of paracetamol on pregnancy.

“None of them are enough for us to draw a definite conclusion about the risk that paracetamol may or may not have. The biggest work from Sweden shows that the risk is not so concern,” he said.

“This [latest] Furore is based on a specific study, systematic examination that authors claim that data is consistent with the fact that paracetamol is associated with autism… Certainly, there is no strong evidence for Utero’s exposure. [paracetamol] causes autism. “

The Swedish study, published in 2024, analyzed the records of 2.48 million births from 1995 to 2019. Comparing the siblings to control genetic and environmental factors, researchers could not find anything increasing when their mothers took paracetamol when they were pregnant.
