A BASE jumper was rescued in canyons near Moab, Utah, in a dramatic video shared on social media earlier this week.

Video shot by Danielle Mick shows the heart-pounding moment Wednesday when rescuers caught up with a BASE jumper whose rainbow-coloured parachute was stuck in the face of a canyon at Kane Creek.

Grand County Emergency Services shared that officers were called around 1 p.m., and officers were not able to first reach the currently unidentified BASE jumper until 3:15 p.m.

In a Facebook post after the incident, the Grand County Sheriff’s Department wrote that “the BASE jumper was successfully rescued,” provided “advanced treatment for moderate injuries” and removed from the cliff face to the landing zone around 4 p.m.

In the video, first responders exit the helicopter to reach the hapless jumper as the wind blows the attached parachute across the canyon surface. The daring rescue video, originally shared on Facebook, is approximately 20 minutes long.

According to Moab BASE Access, Utah Chapter, a 501(c)3 organization, “BASE jumping is legal on Bureau of Land Management managed lands surrounding Moab” and “BASE jumping is all fun and games until you are crushed in the talus and need rescue and surgery.” Moab BASE Access did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

According to the Utah Search and Rescue Association, each Utah county’s respective sheriff’s office is responsible for its own search and rescue operations.

“While yesterday’s incident garnered public attention because it was visible from the city, these types of rescues are exactly what we train for and do on a fairly regular basis,” Grand County EMS wrote on Facebook. “It is a privilege to serve this community alongside such dedicated professionals and bring people home safely.”
