Hormone-free male birth control pill shown safe in human trials, raising hopes for new contraceptive option

Researchers say that a new male contraceptive pill that does not use hormones has passed early steps without negative side effects.
The drug designed to recyclable the number of sperm was tested on 16 male volunteers. This development can offer men a new alternative to condoms or vasectomy, which is the only option for male contraception for a long time.
Male contraceptive pills attempts to create attempts to create use of weight gain, acne, mood changes and changes in sex driving.
In the meantime, although women have a number of birth control options, they typically come with potential side effects. More than one -third of the woman (37 percent), the contraceptive pill report a negative experience.
Scientists, what distinguishes this new pill from each other, is a non -hormone formula, which can mean much less negative effect than previous efforts.
“Since almost half of all pregnancies around the USA and the world are unwanted, there is a critical need for additional contraceptive options for men and women.
This contraceptive uses a chemical called YCT-529, which aims to prevent vitamin A metabolites from binding to certain receptors in the testicles and thus stopping sperm production.
Professor Alan Pacey, a Andrologist who is not involved in the work of Manchester University, said to the BBC Radio 4’s Today program: “This molecule targets a compound associated with vitamin A, retinoic acid, and this compound can be produced perfectly for a male contract pill, how this compound is produced in a male control, for a long time, for a long time, for a long time, for a long time, for a long time, for a long time, for a long time, for a long time. We know that you know it is produced in the inhabitants.
Previous animal studies using this compound have shown that it could cause recycled infertility without causing side effects.
In these latest trials, 16 male volunteers between 32 and 59 years of age took the drug twice in increasing doses of 10 mg, 30mg, 90mg and 180mg. Side effects and hormone levels were viewed for 15 days.
The authors of the study wrote: “The application of single oral doses of 10-180 mg of 30 mg and 30 mg is tolerated by healthy male subjects. Prosper, hormone, hormone, hormone and volume, hormones and volumes (without a clear food effect).
Dr Pacey described the results as a “exciting step ,, but warned that the drug has not yet been tested in the real world to verify the effectiveness of the drug to prevent pregnancy.
“If you start to get any pills to end the sperm from the beginning, and therefore start to receive any pills, not just this, you should be the sperm on the production line to be transported from the system. Therefore, there will be a delay between the pills and the full contraceptive effects.”
He also stated that presenting the pill to the market continues to be an important financial obstacle.
