UK seaside town rated ‘best for short break’ given £20m funding boost | UK | News

A popular UK seaside town is to benefit from £20 million worth of investment over the next 10 years. The town, which has been hailed as the “best place for a short break” in the UK, will be transformed as part of the government’s Pride in Place programme.

Located in East Sussex, Hastings is known for its rich history and stunning coastline. As well as its old town with winding streets and timber-framed buildings, Hastings also has a beautiful seafront and a traditional pier. Ambitious plans to rejuvenate the town through a series of improvements including the regeneration of community areas have now been confirmed.

As reported by SunThe £20 million project prioritizes safer streets and regenerating public spaces. Improvements will also be seen in sports, entertainment and gaming facilities.

Heritage sites across the town will also undergo restoration, including Hastings Castle, the Maritime Shipwreck Museum and the ancient Iron Age earthworks on East Hill. The plans hope to create “a Hastings for everyone”.

Hastings Borough Council deputy leader Julia Hilton (Green) said the improvements would be shaped “in collaboration with the local community”. Meanwhile local MP Helena Dollimore (Labour) praised the project for making Hastings “an even better place to live”.

Hastings is considered a must-visit seaside town in the United Kingdom. There are many positive reviews on TripAdvisor from visitors noting the beauty of the area and its family-friendliness.

Best little pub in Hastings. Looking for a cheese-shaped house. Pebble-lined church. Magnificent views over both hills.”

“My favorite is the west hill, which overlooks the view and the harbor arm. The lifeboat shop is a must. Walk down to Rockanore, stop by the fisherman’s museum and if you can buy some fresh fish at the fish market.”

Saltandvinegar1234 added: “Beautiful, well-kept original buildings, a feast for the eyes, well worth a wander around and some lovely old real ale pubs and interesting shops.”
