Helen Newlove, victims’ commissioner and peer, dies after short illness | UK criminal justice

Helen Newlove, the victims’ commissioner for England and Wales, died after a brief illness, her office said.
Lady Newlove, a Conservative life peer, was re-appointed commissioner in October 2023 after two previous terms in the role and was due to serve until the end of this year.
His office paid tribute to him as a “committed and passionate advocate for victims.”
The following statements were made in the statement: “Under his leadership, the role of the victims’ commissioner has been transformed and his reputation, influence and authority have increased.
“He has made the office a trusted voice and a true force for victims: an institution that stands firmly with them, defends their rights, and holds the justice system accountable.
“This transformation is a testament to his work and will remain his lasting legacy.”
