Transgender athlete ‘was very dishonest’, says world’s strongest woman Andrea Thompson

The British athlete, who was named the world’s strongest woman, said her winning moment was “stolen” after it was revealed that the real champion was a transgender woman who was not eligible to compete.

Andrea Thompson was retroactively awarded the title following the disqualification of American athlete Jammie Booker.

Thompson told BBC Sport the competition, held in Arlington, Texas, was “overshadowed by someone who shouldn’t have been there”.

“I was so frustrated and angry about what he did,” she said. “He lied, was very dishonest and took a lot of things away from a lot of women.

“The lady who placed 11th did not have the chance to enter the world’s top 10 status on the third day.”

Organizers Official Strongman said that “contestants may only compete in the category based on their biological sex recorded at birth” and that they disqualified the athlete in question who was “biologically male”.
