Heroic 12-year-old steers car to safety after mother faints at wheel | News

A call to 999 captures the moment a 12-year-old boy called emergency services after steering the car to safety after his mother fainted behind the wheel.

Zac Howells took control of the vehicle on December 14, 2024, after his mother Nicola lost consciousness with her foot on the accelerator.

The teenager tried to wake his mother before grabbing the steering wheel and steering the car towards the edge of the grass to slow it down.

After the vehicle stopped, he turned off the engine and calmly called 999, informing the call handler of the exact location of the car to which officers were assigned.

Neither Zac nor Nicola were injured during the incident.

West Mercia Police awarded Zac the Chief Constable’s Commendation for his bravery.
