The festive season is a time for reflection, good food, family, gifts and, of course, Christmas movies. Across the UK, households will enjoy Christmas movies such as Elf, Home Alone, Love Actually or The Holiday, which are undoubtedly among the favourites.

While members of the Royal Family probably enjoy these movies too, they’re not for Queen Elizabeth II. They weren’t Elizabeth’s favorite Christmas movies. It is believed that he liked Flash Gordon instead.

This is a film that the late monarch is said to have enjoyed watching with his grandchildren at Christmas time.

“The Queen, this is her favorite movie, she watches it with her grandchildren every Christmas,” actor Brian Blessed, who plays Prince Vultan in the film, told Yahoo Movies a while ago.

He said the late Queen told him: “You know, my grandchildren and I watch Flash Gordon all the time.

“And if you don’t mind, my grandchildren are here, can you say ‘Gordon is alive’?”

It is not known which of Her Majesty’s grandchildren enjoyed watching the film with.

However, it is believed they will watch it at Sandringham over the Christmas period.

It is unknown whether this is a tradition that has continued since the late Queen’s death in September 2022.
