According to the Minister of Industries and Law, P. Rajeeeve, the phase-2 structure of the Tetrapod-based sea wall in Chellanam will organize on July 2 in Thiruvananthapuram.

The meeting will focus on the protection of stretching in Panchayat.

Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine, Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian, KJ Maxy, MLA, Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) Chairman Km Abraham and other senior officials will participate. The meeting will shape the second stage of the project to protect all the coasts of Chellanam.

The first phase of the project was completed in 2023, when a Tetrapod sea wall was built in 2023 for 7.30 km in 2023. In order to attract tourists, a passage facing the sea was built. In addition, ₹ 90 crore was spent for a Groyne network along Bazar and Kannamaly regions. In the first stage, the shore from Chellanam Port to Puthenthode is stretched, while a similar tension of approximately 7 km from Puthenthode to Cheeriyakadavu continues to cover.

To find a permanent solution to the maritime erosion in Chellanam, a project decision was taken shortly after the opening of the second LDF government. Chellanam is the worst affected by the 10 hot points exposed to sea erosion in the state determined by the irrigation department.

Residents of Panchayat have been forced on May 24 since the beginning of the monsoon. Nine houses were completely damaged and hundreds of partial damaged or dipped. Families who lost their homes remain in a charity camp in the congregation hall of a local church. The affected families apply with income officials for compensation.
