If you attended a wedding this summer, there’s a good chance one of your fellow guests will be wearing a RIXO dress.

Founded in 2015 by close friends Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McCloskey, the brand has become indispensable for special occasion wear for women of all ages and sizes (it appeals up to size 26) thanks to its fun prints.

Now designers have collaborated with the carpet company Robust to create a custom printed rug collection. There are four patterns in various shapes on runners and rugs. And the best part? You can choose machine-washable carpets.

I saw the collection at the RIXO store on King’s Road and was impressed by how RIXO’s signature style was reflected in the carpets. Orlagh McCloskey shared with me the inspiration behind the designs.

Kensington masterfully combines RIXO’s signature leopard and floral motifs into one cohesive and bold piece that surprisingly doesn’t feel overdone. It reflects the vintage charm of the brand without being too loud. My personal favorite in the collection.

Dopamine dressing turns into dopamine decor thanks to the Kings Road rug. This design shines with swirling colors and retro energy, bearing the same 1960s and ’70s influences that inform Rixo’s most beloved prints.

At first glance, this rug looks like a classic tapestry. But when you look closer, you suddenly become aware of all the details; There are not only the namesake lion cubs, but also owls, fluttering butterflies and blooming flowers.

At the launch party, this rug was Femail’s fashion editor’s favorite. Geometric patterns and blush tones fit comfortably into neutral, modern interiors, offering subtle femininity without excess. Elegant and confident but still retaining the RIXO romance.

You and Henrietta started RIXO at your kitchen table as two fashion students who shared a common love of vintage prints – what do you remember most vividly about those early days at Barons Court when you look back?

What stands out most when we look back is that sense of absolute commitment and excitement. We were completely thrown off the deep end from the very beginning, and honestly, it all happened out of pure passion. I actually slept on the couch for months because my bedroom turned into a storage room!

Those early days were definitely tough, our flat was full of fabric and samples and we sacrificed a lot to make RIXO work, including our social lives. But we were filled with hope that we had created something truly special.

In the next section we see RIXO transition from wardrobes to homes; Why Ruggable rugs and why now?

In my opinion, the carpet completely transforms the space, it is like the “dress” of the room. Partnering with Ruggable felt natural because, like RIXO, they value design that is both beautiful and functional. We wanted to bring the RIXO spirit to your home with colors, textures and pieces that make you feel and inspire.

RIXO prints are instantly recognisable. How did you adapt these distinctive patterns and colors to Ruggable without causing overload?

We love mixed prints but also really appreciate neutrals; The important thing is to find this balance. Working with Ruggable, we wanted our distinctive RIXO patterns and colors to be as playful and expressive as they are on our dresses, but still work well within the home. What matters is the right mix of lines, tones and scales so that nothing dominates.

You and Henrietta became mothers in recent years; How did this change your relationship with the idea of “home”? Does the washable element of your new carpet collaboration seem more appealing now that there are little people running around in your home?

Colossal! Home is even more important now; A place that feels comfortable, livable and personal, and is also easy to maintain. The washable feature is a game changer, especially for little ones (and all the mess that comes with them).

You both come from outside the traditional fashion establishment; No fashion dynasties, no nepotism. Ten years later, do you think the outsider status is actually a superpower?

Absolutely – it meant we did things our own way and weren’t afraid to try new things. Not having a plan allowed us to trust our instincts and work a little harder. I think this gave us a unique perspective and helped RIXO feel authentic.

Has motherhood affected your creative eye and your thoughts about comfort, practicality, and even color?

Yes, too much! I think about comfort much more now; Everything needs to move with you and work for your real life. I still love colors and prints, but I’ve found myself drawn to things that are cheerful and easy to wear or live with.

As you look to the next decade, how do you want women to feel when they wear RIXO or start living with it now?

We have always wanted RIXO to make women feel safe, individual and inspired. Whether they wear one of our dresses or bring RIXO into their home, it’s all about feeling fully themselves and celebrating their own personal style.

We’ve always said that RIXO is more than a brand, it’s a community. Gorgeous women who share the same love for self-expression and creativity. We want them to be proud to be one of RIXO’s People.
