High street shop with over 200 stores announces UK closure with note on door | UK | News

A charity shop with more than 200 stores across the UK has announced its closing date after locals noticed a sign on its door. The Salvation Army store on Edinburgh’s Dalry Road was forced to close due to the expiration of its lease.

The Edinburgh store will officially close its doors on October 31 in gratitude to all customers for their support over the years. Edinburgh Live. The charity shop is one of 200 Salvation Army stores across the UK that raise funds and resources for the charity.

A note posted on the store’s door reads: “This store is CLOSING. Our last day of trading will be October 31, 2025. Thank you to all our customers and donors for your support.”

“We will not be able to accept new donations during this period. Opening hours may vary.

“Your nearest stores are Gorgie Road and Earl Gray Street.”

This comes after The Salvation Army was recently forced to close its stores in St Neots, Falrkirk and Edinburgh.

In an earlier statement, the Salvation Army team said: “The Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL) operates approximately 200 high street charity shops and over 60 donation centers on behalf of its parent charity.

“Our charity shops (and other reuse and recycling programs we operate, such as our clothing donation banks) raise funds and provide resources for the Salvation Army.

“Overall, the number of stores in the UK is increasing and store closures are not common. As with the Dalry Road store, store closures are often a result of the end of a lease or review period.

“We will continue the store lease where possible but where this is not possible we will invest the funds in other services or areas.

“We are extremely grateful for the support from our customers and donors at Dalry Road over the years. Customers and donors can find their nearest Salvation Army store or clothing donation bank on our easy-to-use map locator: Find Us – The Salvation Army.”

It follows a report from the Charity Retail Association (CRA) that said some of the country’s biggest charity shops would follow Scope in closing stores in 2025.

Scope, a disability charity, announced the closure of 77 of its 138 stores in the UK earlier this year due to financial difficulties.
