According to Haydarabad metropolitan water supply and sewage board (HMWS & SB), these operations are completely determined by water input, output and rainfall patterns, not with how clear the doors are.

Although the Water Board officials seem random to open and close the doors frequently, each decision stressed that weather forecasts, entrances and water levels are carefully evaluated. An official may seem like we open and close the doors without a plan, but every movement is calculated to maintain both the water security of the city and the safety of the reservoir, ”he said.

If the doors remain open for long periods of rain and the entrances are reduced, the water level may drop and may affect storage. Conversely, keeping them closed for too long during heavy entries can print on the infrastructure of the reservoir. Therefore, passage operations are adjusted according to valid conditions.

Authorities, the aim is to maximize water storage for the city, to minimize waste and to ensure the security of the infrastructure, he said. The Board monitors the rainfall, the entrances from the up flow areas and the reservoir levels for 24 hours. Based on these readings, decisions are made up to how many hours will be opened and what heights are made. This approach provides adequate drinking water reserves while preventing the reservoir from damaging during heavy rains.
