‘Historic’ Budget reflects aspirations of 140 crore Indians: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, February 1, 2026, called the Union Budget 2026-27 “historic” and said it reflects the aspirations of 140 million Indians and strengthens the reform journey and charts a clear roadmap for Viksit Bharat.
In his televised post-budget comments on the budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Modi also said that the budget is a “highway of opportunities”.

“Today’s budget is a historic budget. It reflects the aspirations of 140 billion Indians. It strengthens the reform journey and charts a clear roadmap for Viksit Bharat,” he said.

The Prime Minister said the budget reflects the strengthened presence of women power in the nation. He said Ms Sitharaman had set a new record by presenting the country’s budget for the ninth consecutive time.
Prime Minister Modi said this year’s budget presents an ambitious roadmap that will give new impetus to ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.
“This Budget lays the foundation for our journey towards Viksit Bharat by 2047. This year’s budget will inject new energy and new momentum into India’s reform,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that India is not content with just being the fastest growing economy and the Budget strengthens the foundations of India’s bright future.
“This budget further strengthens India’s global role. 1.4 billion Indian citizens are not satisfied with just being the fastest growing economy. We want to become the third largest economy in the world as soon as possible. This is the determination of millions of citizens,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi said that this budget embodies the vision of trust-based governance and a people-centered economic framework and is a different budget that prioritizes reducing the fiscal deficit and containing inflation while balancing high capital expenditure with strong economic growth.
He also said that the support MSMEs received from this year’s budget will give them new impetus to grow from local to global.
