Home Tutor Gets RI for Misbehaving with Student in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The special sessions judge on POCSO Act cases sentenced 23-year-old homeschooler Abdul Qayyum to five years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for misbehaving with an underage girl in the old city in 2019.

Special sessions judge G. Uday Bhaskar Rao found Qayyum guilty in the case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the accused.

According to the police, the suspect was teaching the girl Arabic at his home when he misbehaved with her. When he screamed, his mother caught up. When his mother asked Kayyum, he remained silent and ran away.

Based on her complaint, the police registered a case and the victim’s statement was recorded at Bharosa centre. Bharosa team provided a range of counseling techniques to assist the victim and her family. They also offered moral and emotional support through consistent follow-up sessions and participation in workshops.

The family was extremely happy when they heard about the conviction.
