Homebase making huge change to 200 stores from November | UK | News

Homebase is to make a major change to more than 200 garden centers across The Range supermarkets from November.

The building and garden retailer, which opened more than 200 ‘Garden Centers by Homebase’ across The Range stores this year after going into administration at the end of 2024, has confirmed it will stock real Christmas trees just in time for the festive season. Customers who have previously relied on Homebase to deck out their living room with a real tree every Christmas can now continue to do so, as the retailer will be receiving brand new stock from mid-November to December. Homebase collapsed into administration in November 2024 due to a post-pandemic collapse in consumer confidence and spending, but later struck a deal with retail group CDS, which owns The Range, saving some stores.

CDS closed 70 Homebase branches as part of the deal, saving approximately 1,600 jobs; Rival DIY chain B&Q has taken control of five branches and a further four have been converted into Wickes.

Homebase has since opened Garden Centers by Homebase stores in more than 200 The Range stores nationwide, giving shoppers plenty of options to choose their Christmas tree this year.

The retailer said shoppers will soon be able to choose from three different real Christmas tree varieties, including Norman Fir Fir, Fraser Fir and Noble Fir, as part of its brand new range for 2025.

Announcing the news on Facebook, Homebase said in a post: “Christmas has been SAVED! While the headlines talk about tree shortages, we’re here to spread festive cheer with beautiful real trees, arriving just in time to adorn your living rooms from mid-November to December. Here’s what’s coming soon:

  • Nordman Fir – soft needles and excellent needle retention
  • Fraser Fir – compact shape and fresh scent (perfect for small spaces)
  • Noble Fir (ROI only) – blue-green leaves and sturdy branches for all your sparkling decorations

“Plus, discover stands and accessories that will keep your tree looking merry and bright all season long. You’ll now find Homebase’s Garden Centers in The Range supermarkets nationwide – bringing together over 45 years of gardening know-how and festive favorites under one roof.”

Homebase said all of its real Christmas trees are premium, sustainably grown in the UK and hand-selected for superior shape, color and festive scent. The retailer adds that its Christmas tree range is “bred to last longer.”
