Mysterious Death Turns Out A Murder By Wife

Hyderabad: The death of auto driver Vijay Kumar turned out to be a murder committed by his wife due to frequent fights and allegations of extramarital affairs. Meerpet police cracked the case and arrested the victim’s wife after receiving the post-mortem report confirming her death by strangulation.
According to police, the case came to light on October 20 when the deceased’s mother Alampally Sathyamma, a resident of Pragathinagar Colony in Jillelguda, filed a complaint stating that her elder son Vijay Kumar was found dead under suspicious circumstances. Following the woman’s complaint, the police registered a case of suspicious death under Article 194 of the BNSS and launched an investigation.
After the examination, the body was taken to Osmaniye State Hospital for autopsy. The preliminary report revealed a ligature mark on the neck, suggestive of strangulation.
While the investigation was ongoing, on October 26, Vijay’s brother informed the police that Vijay’s wife Sandhya (34), a sanitation worker in the Meerpet Municipal Corporation, had confessed to killing her husband. Following this statement, the case was amended to include charges of murder and destruction of evidence.
Sandhya was arrested on Monday. During interrogation, she admitted that she strangled her husband first with a scarf and then with a rope to make sure he was dead. The incident took place on October 20 after her husband, who frequently accused her of being unfaithful to a colleague named Jeevan, allegedly returned home drunk, assaulted her and threatened to end his life. In a fit of rage, Sandhya strangled him and later tried to pass off the scene as an accidental death by placing the body outside the house, near the bathroom.
Police seized the rope and scarf used in the incident at his home. Sandhya was produced in court and sentenced to 14 days of judicial custody.
