Horror as ‘iconic stag’ decapitated in park by intruders | UK | News

A ‘family favorite’ stag was brutally murdered in an Irish park by callous intruders who left only his decapitated corpse.
The shocking incident occurred in Co Dublin after trespassers broke into a deer enclosure overnight.
The barbaric act sparked outrage after the headless stag remains belonging to a deer herd at Newbridge Demesne in Donabate were discovered on Thursday morning (November 27), according to Fingal County Council.
A statement from the council confirmed that the creature was slaughtered overnight. The stag was part of a herd that became a beloved family attraction in North County Dublin, and wildlife service workers as well as councilors expressed their horror at the ‘callous murder’.
Gardai are investigating the murder. Fingal County Council said in a statement: “The discovery was made when staff went to feed a herd of Irish Red Deer.
“The eight-year-old buck was one of only two in the herd.”
The Mayor of Fingal has expressed his anger at the ‘shocking’ killing after visiting the stag many times.
Tom O’Leary said: “I visited this parkland with my grandchildren who really enjoyed meeting the deer and elk. They are a wonderful animal to see up close.
“It is truly shocking that someone would commit this act. I would urge anyone with information to contact gardaí or the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Killing a deer without a license is illegal and I hope the perpetrators can be brought to justice.”
Ivan Smith, Foreman of Newbridge House and Traditional Farm, said: “We are absolutely shocked by this incident. He was a lovely stag with a beautiful pair of antlers and was a great favorite with the public walking in the park.”
The council confirmed the incident is currently being investigated by An Garda Siochana and the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or email wildlifeenforcement@npws.gov.ie.
