A driver driving the wrong way on the highway for more than three miles came “inches away from a head-on collision.” The driver sparked concern among other motorists on Saturday night, with police receiving more than 30 emergency calls about the incident.
Police said the driver was traveling on the M6 near Stoke on Trent. Speaking about the incident, Staffordshire Road Crime Squad said it was nothing short of a miracle that no one was injured.
Sharing a photo of the red car involved, police said: “This evening we received over 30 999 calls reporting this vehicle traveling the wrong way on the M6 from J15 (south to north). “We immediately closed the motorway at J14 Northbound, prepared to put ourselves at risk to protect the public.
“The vehicle traveled more than 6 miles before stopping in the lane 4 inches away from a head-on collision. Miraculously, no one was injured and no damage was sustained.”
Police described the driver as “confused.” StokeOnTrentLive reports.
The message said: “The confused driver has temporarily surrendered his license to us pending a full review by the DVLA and medical experts.
“We would like to thank everyone for acting quickly, calling 999 and obeying motorway signals.”
