New Delhi: India on Friday said “incessant hostilities” against minorities in Bangladesh are a matter of serious concern, but reiterated that the upcoming parliamentary elections in that country must be free, fair and inclusive. New Delhi also reacted cautiously to the homecoming of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) deputy leader Tarique Rahman, saying it should be seen in the context of ensuring inclusive polls.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India condemns the recent murder of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh, Bangladesh.
“The incessant hostilities against minorities, including Hindus, Christians and Buddhists, in Bangladesh are a serious concern. We condemn the recent murder of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh and expect the perpetrators of the crime to be brought to justice,” he said at his weekly media briefing. he said.
Jaiswal said that India is closely following the developments in Bangladesh.
He noted that more than 2,900 incidents of violence against minorities were documented by independent sources during the tenure of the interim government in Bangladesh.
“Incidents of violence against minorities in Bangladesh cannot be brushed aside as media exaggeration or ignored as political violence,” Jaiswal said. he said.
