House surgeon dies by suicide in Siddipet; fellow doctor arrested

A 23-year-old house surgeon allegedly died by suicide in his hostel room at the Government Medical College in Siddipet after he was allegedly cheated by a doctor friend on the pretext of a relationship.
The deceased was identified as B. Lavanya, a native of Jogulamba-Gadwal district. According to Siddipet police, Lavanya had completed her MBBS and was working as an intern in the Medical College. During his internship, he came in contact with Pranay Teja, a junior doctor at Alwal, in July 2025. Pranay had completed his master’s degree and was working in the same institute.
Police said the two became close. But after some time, Pranay stopped responding to Lavanya’s calls and messages and allegedly refused to marry her because she was of Dalit origin.
Lavanya, who was depressed due to the allegation that she was cheated on, ended her life. He was taken to the hospital for treatment by other doctors at the hospital. However, he died in the early hours of Sunday.
Based on a complaint, Siddipet Town-III police registered a case under relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Cruelty) Act. Pranay Teja was arrested on January 5 and sent to judicial custody.
