House to vote on funding bill

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) walks surrounded by media as members of the U.S. House of Representatives return to Washington after a 53-day recess for a vote that could end the longest U.S. government shutdown in history, Washington, DC, USA, November 12, 2025.

The vote came two days after the Senate passed the bill; The Republican majority in that chamber reached an agreement with eight members of the Democratic caucus to end the impasse that led to the shutdown on October 1.
Most Democratic senators refused to vote for the bill because it did not provide increased tax credits to the millions of Americans who purchase health insurance through the Affordable Care Act marketplaces.
Under the Senate agreement, Republicans agreed in December to let Democrats vote on a bill of their choice to extend the increased subsidies, which are set to expire at the end of that month.
