How America’s Advanced Aircraft Carriers Compare To The Rest Of NATO’s Fleet

Depending on how you classify aircraft carriers, there are five NATO countries with aircraft carriers in their navy. The US has the most aircraft carriers, Existing 11 “real” aircraft carrier fleet. There are England in the list that can put two carriers into the sea. Then there is France, the only country that can establish a nuclear -energy aircraft carrier outside the United States. After that, things are not that simple. Although Italy, Spain and Türkiye have technically aircraft carriers, some can be classified as amphibious attack ships. However, we will consider them as a carrier for the sake of this article and because they can operate fixed-wing planes, including F-35b.
Technically, there are significant differences between fleets. For example, the latest American carrier – USS Gerald R. Ford – about 100,000 tons of displacement and may have a larger air wing than some air force. In addition, nuclear energy gives these ships almost unlimited range and allow them to work anywhere in the world without constantly refueling (but A surprising time for a nuclear aircraft carrier to refuel supply). No other NATO carrier can match these abilities. Initially, let’s take a look at how American aircraft carriers are compared with those of England and France, the two countries whose carriers whose carriers are closest to the US and the United States in terms of global access.

We will start by comparing the other nuclear -energy aircraft carrier with American carriers. In the face of this, Nuclear Energy, French carrier Charles de Gaulle (CDG) can be equal to the American fleet with at least repulsive terms. However, even when comparing the old Nimitz class carriers, differences are clear. Twin reactors on American ships provide 1100 megawatt energy and should supply fuel every twenty years. CDG’s reactors produce 300 megawatts and require fuel supply every seven years.
Two British carriers-HMS Queen Elizabeth and the Prince of Wales-two Rolls-Royce Gas turbine are strengthened by alternators and diesel generators and give them a range of 10,000 naval miles. In addition, the largest ships assigned by the royal navy. However, 65,000 tons of displacement and CDG’s 42,500 tons displacement makes these ships significantly smaller than the last 100,000 -ton “Ford” class American carriers.
The dimension difference provides a prominent advantage to US carriers in terms of firepower and Geraldd R. Ford 90 aircraft can carry. British ships can carry 72 aircraft (including maximum 36 f-35b), while CDG is limited to 40 aircraft. In terms of speed, Gerald R. Ford is also at the top of the class with 30 knots, a second second, 27 knot reliable CDG, British carriers have a capacity of 25 knots.

Comparing “Ford” class carriers with others may seem like David and Goliath scenario. However, this is not due to the fact that all the ships mentioned remain as terrible weapons platforms. For example, the Italian carrier – cave – although it weighs a relatively 30,000 tons, it can still carry up to 20 F-35B Lightning II JetsAnd it has an impressive highest speed on 28 maritime miles. It can also act as an amphibious landing vessel, a hospital ship and a logistics platform.
When we look at the sps Juan Carlos I of Spain, the story is similar. This is a 26,000-ton ship that can carry up to 30 aircraft, including F-35B and AV-8B Harrier II. Juan Carlos is also the slowest carrier we have ever looked at and the highest speed is 21 knots. Finally, we come to the Turkish carrier with 27,000 tons TCG Anatolia. The design of this ship was based on the Spanish Juan Carlos carrier and could carry F-35B jets. However, Türkiye was released from the F-35B program, and the ship was largely redesigned to become the world’s first carrier/amphibious ship with almost completely completely drones. In addition, Türkiye is also in the process of building a “full carrier” of 60,000 tons, which is expected to be released in 2027 or 2028 and can carry up to 60 aircraft. Although NATO’s carrier fleet is great, it continues to be the fact that American carriers are in their league.
