Legendary musician AR Rahman’s pre-birthday bash was celebrated at the grand audio launch event of his new movie Moonwalk held at Sathyabama University in Chennai on Sunday. Mozart from Madras, who will have his first acting experience in the movie, will turn 59 on Tuesday, January 6. The master musician cut a special cake on stage.
Prabhu Deva, who headlined the Moonwalk, shared photos from the film’s audio launch event on Instagram on Monday. She captioned the photos: “#MoonwalkAudioLaunch I witnessed history. I felt the music. Icons. Energy. Moonwalk. A musical evening we will never forget. #HappyBirthdayARRahman #ARRahmanBirthday Moonwalk, A full-length Comedy film, in theaters – May 2026.”
The event featured exciting live performances by AR Rahman and Prabhu Deva. Director Manoj Nirmala Sreedharan thanked the entire cast and crew for making the film truly memorable and expressed confidence that Moonwalk will bring immense joy and happiness to the audience in theaters when it releases in May 2026.
The excitement of the audience was at its peak when multiple National Award-winning composer Rahman appeared on stage for the first time and immediately performed five songs from Moonwalk. The live performance sent fans into a frenzy, turning the night into a true celebration of music. Rahman himself sang all five songs in the film.
Prabhu Deva, hailed as the Michael Jackson of India, performed a 10-minute dance tribute to AR Rahman by performing all five Moonwalk songs. The two-time National Award winning choreographer danced at the event along with his co-stars Yogi Babu, Aju Varghese, Arjun Asokan, Satz and choreographer Sekhar.
The evening concluded with Prabhu Deva bringing AR Rahman back to the stage and the maestro giving a leg-shake to the iconic song Mukkala Mukkabla. Afterwards, a grand cake cutting ceremony was held to celebrate Rahman’s birthday. The two-time Oscar winner cut a cake with the film’s entire cast and crew in front of more than 10,000 fans.
