Second Sudanese national isolated at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad after developing fever, samples sent for Ebola testing

A second Sudanese national was admitted to Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad and was placed in isolation after developing a fever while under quarantine, hospital officials said on Friday (June 5). It was stated that the patient was evaluated and tested for Ebola as a precautionary measure.

This development comes a day after another Sudanese traveler was isolated after fever was detected during thermal screening at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), triggering concerns over a possible Ebola infection.

To talk HinduGandhi Hospital Ebola Nodal Officer Dr. Vamshi Krishna clarified that only two people are currently under observation in the hospital, contrary to some media reports claiming that three people have been isolated. “There are only two patients. The third person mentioned in some reports is a companion who was determined to be a contact of the second patient. Since the person did not have any symptoms, we recommended home quarantine.”

The second patient, a 23-year-old Sudanese student traveling from Uganda to Hyderabad for education, was initially quarantined under yellow fever surveillance protocols. He later developed a fever during the quarantine period, which led health authorities to send him to Gandhi Hospital for isolation and further evaluation for Ebola.

Samples from the student were collected on Friday morning and sent to the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB).
