How OpenAI lobbied to change Australia’s laws

In June last year, as senior federal government staff prepared to meet with OpenAI’s top lobbyists, they braced themselves for some big questions. The makers of ChatGPT expected the Australian government to invest in American infrastructure and to roll back our tougher approach to copyright and AI regulations, or risk missing out on the full benefits of the AI boom.
Internal government documents obtained through freedom of information requests show how the government prepared for and responded to OpenAI’s initial lobbying efforts in Australia.
