Winter weather forces school delays across Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia – Check out the delay in timings of your school in these snow-affected areas

A mix of snow and rain is expected in the Washington, D.C. area overnight Monday through Tuesday, marking the beginning of several days of cold, unstable weather, FOX 5 DC reports. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Alert from 3 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday for parts of north-central and northern Maryland and the West Virginia panhandle.

According to FOX 5 DC, snowfall can begin any time after midnight; Snow is likely to turn to sleet and freezing rain along the I-95 corridor. Areas north and west of I-95 have a higher chance of extended snow showers before precipitation transitions to rain later Tuesday morning.

Forecasters warn of slippery and dangerous travel conditions, especially during the morning commute, which could also impact school schedules. As the rain continues on Tuesday afternoon, the region will experience cold and stormy weather.

The rest of the week will remain cool, with dry weather expected on Wednesday and Thursday. It is possible to see new winter precipitation between Friday night and Saturday morning. Some school districts announced delays for Tuesday morning ahead of the storm’s arrival, FOX 5 DC reported.
