These Movies Generated Insane Profits

The year 2025 has been a solid year for Indian cinema. Like every year, the box office has had its share of hits and flops. Movies like Saiyaara, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, Tere Ishk Mein, Dhurandhar, Chhaava and Kantara: Chapter 1 have been termed as blockbusters.

Post-COVID, it has become rare for movies to earn triple profits at the box office. But one movie managed to achieve exactly that. Shot on a modest budget of ₹ 50 lakh, this small Gujarati film did not feature A-list actors and had no songs, dance scenes or action sequences. Still, it emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. Laalo Krishna Sada Sahaayate emerged as one of the biggest hits of Hindi cinema. The film ended its theatrical run as the highest-grossing film in Gujarat. It became the first Gujarati film to cross the ₹100 crore mark and completed its spectacular run with earnings of ₹120 crore at the box office.

Laalo Krishna Sada Sahaayate is now one of the most profitable ventures in the history of Indian cinema. With a reported gross profit of nearly 24,000%, the film shattered the previous 6,000% profit record held by Secret Superstar, which earned over ₹900 crore on a budget of ₹15 crore, and Jai Santoshi Maa, which famously rivaled Sholay in 1975 after being made on a modest ₹10 lakh budget.

In comparison, Kantara, made on a budget of ₹125 crore, went on to collect ₹850 crore, making a profit of around 680%. Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar fared slightly better, earning 760% profit and is still releasing in theatres. Saiyaara remains the only major film of the year to earn ten times its budget and earn a profit of 1,350%. The film was made on a budget of ₹40 crore.

In Telugu cinema, for example, such profit margins are unheard of. When a film’s cost is heavily skewed toward fee and the box office is dependent on star-powered vehicles, the returns aren’t very high.
