Perth mum Chloe Mowday back on home soil after minor cosmetic procedure goes wrong in Vietnam

A Perth mother has returned to Australia fighting for her life in an overseas hospital after a routine plastic surgery went horribly wrong, with her family describing her return as nothing short of a miracle.

33-year-old Chloe Mowday was enjoying her holiday in Vietnam, where she had minor plastic surgery on her nose and eyelids.

However, the surgery did not go as planned as the mother of three suffered multiple organ failure and had to go into a coma.

His family rushed to be by his side as he continued surgery to remove a spreading infection.

The language barrier, rising medical costs and uncertainty about her care added to the emotional burden, with Chloe’s husband and son forced to stay in Vietnam to support her.

But miraculously Mrs Mowday was able to fly home on a medical plane just before Christmas.

Her family said they were delighted to have her back home but warned Ms Mowday’s fight was far from over.

“She’s doing a little bit better but she’s still in intensive care and it’s going to be a very long road to recovery,” Chloe’s brother Rod told PerthNow.

In December, Rod revealed that Mrs Mowday was suffering from pneumonia, sepsis and an infection all over her body.

“His toes are still black, he has pneumonia, doctors told me he has sepsis and infection all over his body, we are all exhausted and just waiting for a miracle.”

“His kidneys are not in good condition, he is on dialysis and blood transfusions every day. There is a long road to recovery and we hope we can get him home.”

Doctors later told the family that Ms Mowday would have a much better chance of survival if she was brought back to Australia as soon as possible.

This assessment ultimately led to Ms Mowday being flown back to Australia on a medical flight; It was a moment his family had desperately hoped for.

“When I told Chloe, ‘I’m here to take you home,’ she smiled and cried,” Rod said, adding that Ms. Mowday was now awake and talking and breathing on her own.

“He doesn’t remember much and is overwhelmed, we still have a long way to go.”

Despite the positive step, Ms. Mowday remains in critical condition.

Ms Mowday’s family also expressed their gratitude to the WA community after funds were raised to help cover her medical bills.

Support continues to pour in GoFundMe The fundraiser is still ongoing to cover the six-figure cost of his medical evacuation and ongoing treatment.

“A special thank you to everyone who donated. I have left the GoFund Me page open if anyone would like to help Chloe and her family during these difficult times.”

“Special thanks to Vietnam Family Medicine Practice for helping us get our Chloe home.”

“We have a long road ahead of us but it’s a miracle he’s back in Australia.”
