Netanyahu posts video after Iran rumours he is dead

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a video of himself chatting with his aide over a cup of coffee, after rumors that he was killed or injured were published in Iranian state media and spread online in Iran.

In the video, shot in a cafe on the outskirts of Jerusalem and posted on Netanyahu’s Telegram and X accounts, his aide asks him about the rumors.

As he reaches for a cup of coffee, Netanyahu responds with a pun on the Hebrew slang word for dead, meaning “to go crazy” for someone or something.

“I’m crazy about coffee. You know what? I’m crazy about my people,” Netanyahu tells his aide.

Reuters confirmed the location of the video from file images of the cafe, which matched the interiors seen in the video.

The date was confirmed from multiple videos and photos of Netanyahu’s visit posted at the cafe on Sunday.

Since the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28, Netanyahu has visited at least two towns hit by Iranian missiles, a hospital, a port and military bases, but he had little or no media access and the videos were distributed by his office.

Netanyahu, who rarely gives interviews or holds press conferences to the Israeli press, held his first press conference since the start of the war via video link on Thursday, in a format similar to that used by Israel during its 12-day war against Iran.

Emergency security restrictions imposed in Israel since the start of the war ban public gatherings and keep most people at home or close to shelters and safe rooms; Schools are closed in most of the country.
