Ashes 2025-26: Harry Brook apologises after altercation in New Zealand nightclub

England’s Harry Brook has apologized after being involved in a fight with a nightclub bouncer the night before a one-day international tour of New Zealand before the Ashes.
A report in the Telegraph revealed England white-ball captain Brook was hit by a bouncer after being denied entry to the club the night before the third ODI in Wellington.
Brook, who is also England’s Test vice-captain, avoided removal from white-ball duty but was fined around £30,000 and is issued a final warning for his future behaviour.
The statement came following England’s 4-1 Ashes defeat in Australia; It was a tour riddled with accusations of a lax team culture, including players drinking too much on holiday in Noosa.
“I want to apologize for what I did,” Brook said in his statement. “I fully accept that my behavior was wrong and brought shame to both myself and the England team.
“Representing England is the greatest honor I take seriously and I am deeply sorry to let my team-mates, coaches and fans down. I have reflected on the lessons it has taught me about responsibility, professionalism and the standards expected of those who represent your country.
“I am determined to learn from this mistake and rebuild trust through my future actions both on and off the field. I apologize unreservedly and will work hard to ensure this does not happen again.”
A statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board said: “We are aware of this incident and it has been dealt with through a formal and confidential ECB disciplinary process. The player involved has apologized and accepted that his conduct fell short of expectations in this incident.”
