Howard University Shooting: At Least 4 Shot Near DC Campus During Homecoming Weekend | VIDEO | World News

At least four people were shot outside the Howard University campus Friday night, when the university was holding this year’s graduation celebration. The shooting, which occurred a short distance off campus, resulted in a large police response and is under investigation.

According to reports, one of the victims is in critical condition and the other is in serious condition. Police confirmed the area was safe.

The gunshots broke out around 8:23 p.m. in the 600 block of Howard Place, located near the university’s main garden and the School of Architecture building.

The shooting occurred during Howard’s long-awaited graduation weekend, when large groups of students, alumni and guests flocked to the Washington, D.C., campus.

Police Response: The DC Police Department urged the public to stay away from Georgia Avenue and Howard Place, NW, where they cordoned off the area.

Victim Status: Although the overall number of injured has not been officially reported by police, initial reports indicate that at least four people were shot.

Custody: It was reported that one person was detained in connection with the attack.

Investigation ongoing

Videos posted online shortly after the attack showed a large police presence cordoning off the area. University and D.C. officials are currently investigating the events surrounding the shooting.

The DC Police Department later confirmed to X (formerly Twitter) that the scene had been secured, but did not offer information at the time about the extent of injuries or a motive for the shooting.
